SCANDALOUS! tells the story of the notorious English author D.H. Lawrence, one of the most daring writers of the 20th century. This musical adaptation of Lawrence's life captures the spirit and passion of Lawrence the man, the lover and the author of literary classics that include Lady Chatterley's Lover and Sons and Lovers. Set against the turbulent public love affair between D.H. Lawrence and German Baroness Frieda von Richthofen, it is a story of hope, restlessness and rejection.

Broadway star Bart Shatto (www.bartshatto.com) will play the lead role of D.H. Lawrence. Shatto's Broadway credits include Jean Valjean in LES MISERABLE, Quincey Morris in DRACULA and Pvt. Elmore Hotchkiss in CIVIL WAR THE MUSICAL. Recently, he had the privilege of performing for President George W. Bush at the annual Ford Theater Gala. Shatto has worked extensively in live theater, musical theater, film and television. SCANDALOUS! marks his debut with the Jefferson Perfoming Arts Society and in the New Orleans area.

London West End star Lindsay Hamilton (
www.lindsayhamilton.net) will play the role of Frieda von Richthofen - Lawrence's German wife. Hamilton is considered one of Britain's finest musical theatre actresses and cabaret singers. Her West End credits include: HOT STUFF at the Cambridge Theatre; WHAT A PERFORMANCE at the Queens Theatre with David Suchet; LES MISERABLES playing the role of Fantine and the Jerry Herman musical revue THE BEST OF TIMES.  She also had the privilege of performing in the tenth anniversary concert of LES MISERABLES at the Royal Albert Hall. Hamilton's touring credits include: Eva Peron in EVITA and Emma in Andrew Lloyd Webber's SONG AND DANCE (TELL ME ON A SUNDAY). Her resume of leading lady roles is a testament to her powerful, moving singing voice and her command on stage. She also makes her JPAS and New Orleans debut in this production.

Also making her JPAS debut is Deborah Boily as Lydia Lawrence. Boily has performed all over the U.S., playing roles in numerous cabarets and musical productions including: Mimi Schwinn in William Finn's A NEW BRAIN; Mrs. Johnstone in BLOOD BROTHERS; Amy in COMPANY; Mary Flynn in MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG; and Flora in FLORA THE RED MENACE. She comes to JPAS from Houston, Texas.

The cast also includes the multi-talented New Orleans actor, singer, television and radio personality, Vatican Lokey (far left); British actor and comedian Larry Larkin (middle) and local songstress, Jennifer DeLatte (left) in the role of Jessie Chambers.

Supporting this star-studded cast is an ensemble that includes Mat Grau, Jeff Haffner, Karrie Black, Nick Wyschna, Svetlana Marr, Kristen Almeida, Eric Hadley, Roy Tripp, Holly Reed, Chris Turgeon, Rebecca Fox and Emily Adler.

Louisiana resident, Glyn Bailey composed the music and lyrics and co-wrote the book with colleagues Keith Thomas and Theasa Tuohy. Bailey, like D.H. Lawrence, was born in Nottinghamshire, England and spent much of his life traveling, working and living in other parts of the world. He had always been fascinated with the life and works of this author. Bailey says he hopes that SCANDALOUS! will introduce the genius of D.H. Lawrence to a wider audience. He says "the work was not conceived as an intellectual treatment of Lawrence, but as an entertainment about a remarkable man; his ambitions, inspirations and the changing times of the 20th century."

Dennis G. Assaf, JPAS Executive/Artistic Director, knows how difficult it is to get a new musical off the ground and feels it is important to support a local writer. He and his staff are thrilled to be presenting the U.S. premiere of this exciting new work, which has been produced three times on the English stage.

"It is a g reat honor to partner with this creative team and bring this full show to life for the first time in the United States," said Assaf.  "JPAS is proud to bring new and exciting theatre like SCANDALOUS! to our city. We are certainly looking forward to more productions like this and future collaborations with Glyn and his team."

Keith Thomas and Stephen Duckham - both from England – will co-direct this cast of twenty international, national and local actors with choreography by Lynne Lawrence, musical direction by Glyn Bailey with the JPAS Broadway Pit Orchestra conducted by  Maestro Dennis G. Assaf.
